Difference between subdomain and addon domain?

Subdomain

A subdomain is an extension of your current domain. It's created for free from cPanel without the need to register anything new.

When to use it:

• Separate sections of your same project
• Development or testing environment (dev.tuempresa.com)
• Internal company applications
• Campaign landing pages

Addon Domain

An addon domain is a completely different domain that you can host on the same cPanel account. It requires the domain to be registered (it has a cost).

When to use it:

• Completely different projects
• Sites for different clients
• Separate brands under the same account
